It was worth a try but it seems redundant, so
we might as well kill it.

Not all themes have ok contrast for alternate base and
we want to keep it light, so I'm enforcing it for
themes with white background.

This enables alternate row colors, with filled empty
area on the side bar for improved usability.

I used vector graphics for icons, to give them a smoother
appearance and added an improved extension button that is
visible on a dark background. Down arrows are now
painted with AA enabled.

full path. Which is suboptimal and will surely change.
